Refugee Charity Day

Refugee Charity Day

In today’s blog spot we will update you on our recent charity day to help Syrian refugees across Europe. Last Monday saw all of the teams at Westkin Associates pitch in to help to put together bags to assist Syrian refugees across Europe. The production line, which numbered some 5 strong at points, saw our staff assemble bags containing shampoo, tooth brushes, tooth paste and other personal hygiene products. The bags will be distributed by the charity Restless Beings who work with, amongst other causes, Syrian refugees in Europe. The entire operation was overseen by our office manager Sara Wilson who expertly organised our staff and the packaging of the products. In total we put together 86 bags with variants for both men and women: See images at the bottom of the page.

We chose to work with Restless Beings because we feel that the work they are undertaking best allows for direct involvement with the lives of affected groups across the World. Their mission statement and vision for change promotes an egalitarian form of human rights work and its projects are holistic in operation and work towards self sufficiency. The organisation is free of prejudice of any kind as to race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. They believe in egalitarianism for all and as such their team and projects are familial in operation, organisation and structure. We were also drawn to working with them as all funds are donated 100% to their human rights projects with no middle men meaning that donations go to those who most need them.

Over the last summer worldwide headlines have been dominated by the refugee crisis that has engulfed Europe. Many across the globe have been moved by the startling images that have adorned the front pages. Whilst the refugee crisis is not limited just to Syria and is far greater, the recent Syrian conflict has seen many of its citizens forced to flee their homeland and seek safety. North Africa, the Middle East and Syria are the principal areas from where the refugees have migrated from as they look to claim asylum in Europe. We feel that it is our duty as human beings to assist those who are in need. Incidentally, we also believe that, due to the nature of our business, we are best poised to assist those who need help in matters relating to immigration, nationality and human rights. With this in mind, we decided to work with a charity that shares our personal and corporate values.
