Why Should You Choose Westkin As Your Immigration Solicitors?

The decision of which immigration law firm you should hire is perhaps the most important buying decision you will make.

It is a decision that could affect the outcome of everything you do from this point forward – it can be a determining factor in your residence, it can be a determining factor in whether or not you suffer immigration problems, and it can be a determining factor on whether or not you are permitted to emigrate to a country that you wish to relocate to.

When making such a critical life decision, there are things we need to keep in mind in order to make sure you choose wisely. Here are six specific things that you should consider when hiring an immigration law firm in order to make sure that you execute the most well-informed decision that you possibly can.

1 – First, make sure that they specialize in immigration law.

Many law firms, in a bid to get more business, will advertise under various specialties in the phone book, trade journals and other advertising channels.

However, they may not actually specialize in those areas of law. Make sure that the law firm that you higher truly does specialize in immigration – as in, they handle many immigration cases successfully. It is often better to hire one firm for each speciality – one for tax, one for immigration and one for property purchases for example, than to obtain mediocre service from all of them.

2 – Second, make sure that the firm is in good standing with the government, as well as all applicable professional organizations.

When you are considering hiring a law firm, making sure that they are in good standing with organisations such as the OISC, which regulates UK Immigration advice. A simple phone call to those regulators takes 5 minutes and can save problems later.

While it may be a simple thing to do, it is critical – doing your research and performing your due diligence prior to retaining a law firm will pay back in spades when you can rest assured that the law firm you retain is above board.

3 – Third, make sure that they have references that they can furnish you, complete with contact information.

References are, in fact, virtually worthless if you cannot contact the people who supposedly gave them. When you are furnish references with contact information, don’t assume that – just because you are given the contact information – that they are necessarily valid, either. Go the extra mile and actually contact those people. Ask them what the outcome of their cases were. Ask them what their experiences were like. Do your homework, you will be happy later that you did.

4 – Fourth, make sure that they have overwhelmingly positive reviews on legal review directories.

In the Internet age, it is all too easy to find out what kinds of experiences past clients have had with the law firm. Use the search engines to your advantage and find legal directories were past clients can write about their experiences. Take those reviews to heart!

5 – Fifth, make sure that their rates conform to the industry standard.

While you certainly don’t want to be overcharged, be extremely wary of lawyers that charge well below what their competitors are charging, as well. Ask yourself why they can’t do business while charging the industry standard. Chances are, there is a very good reason. They are either weak or have a poor reputation.

6 – Sixth, never retain a lawyer without an initial consultation.

You need to make sure that they have good strategies pertaining to your individual case, and you also have a good rapport with them. Research is all well and good, but the human component needs to be there as well. The temptation is to obtain a free consultation, but often this is a false economy. A free consultation can often be a sales pitch rather than legal advice. Paying for legal advice is a better strategy that getting a sales pitch for free.

7 – A bonus tip. Matters of race and culture

Do not ever choose a lawyer simply because they share the same race as you. You wish to identify a lawyer who has skill, professionalism and is the best lawyer at what they do. Choosing on the basis of race is a way of making you feel more comfortable, rather than getting the best legal advice.
